  1. Vatican II was a big way of making the Church more lenient. The old Church was very harsh, they burned people, the threw people to prison, they hung people, who did not agree with the Church.
  2. Ecumenism is the act of bringing people together; unity.
  3. Theology: faith-seeking understanding.

  • the election of Pope Paul VI gave the Church two Popes (one after another) that wanted change
  • Pope Paul VI made women more of a part of the Church

  • Pope John XXIII's last thoughts were how people were gonna take his death and for the future of his Church.
  • Pope John XXIII had a great impact in the Church and it's current state.

1. Tons of variations of worship were now encouraged.
2. It's a good idea to shop around for different parishes, to get a good feel about the faith. To become more comfortable and get the most out of Church.
3. Pope Benedict XVI wants the more formal Church, while Pope John Paul set up the Church to become more casual and confident.

  2. It was made official in 1870.
  3. It is most important decision maker in the Catholic Church.
